Russia’s Ministry of Industry and Trade (Minpromtorg) expects that by 2025, the share of internet sales in the country will reach 20% of the total volume of retail sales turnover, according to the draft strategy for the development of e-commerce in the country until 2025, published for public discussion on the ministry’s website. At the same time, Russia’s share of the global e-commerce market should reach 10% by the indicated period, the document says.
Moreover, Minpromtorg expects that by 2025, at least 70% of retail stores in the country will sell their products via the internet channel. At the same time, the ministry expects 80% of Russia’s population age 12 or older will use the internet for shopping.
The document contains statistics that show internet commerce to the total volume of retail turnover is currently 3-4%. In 2016, the segment grew by 15-20% while total retail turnover declined by 4.6%, year on year.
