Porta enters Slovakia

The Slovak market with furniture and home decor accessories is becoming increasingly competitive. The trend has been strengthened by the recent announcement made by the Germany-based Porta chain, which already operates the ASKO furniture retail chain on the Slovak market. According to the announcement, Porta will open its first store in Bratislava within the next few months. ASKO entered the Slovak market in 2006 by opening a store in Nitra. Later, it launched outlets in Poprad, Prievidza, Kosice and Bratislava. In 2011, its Slovak stores were acquired by the Porta holding company.

Apart from introducing the Porta brand to the market, the company is preparing for the launch of a large ASKO store. It will be located in a combined ASKO-Porta exhibition-retail complex. in Bratislava, near the Bory Mall shopping centre. The ASKO store will have a retail area of 9,225 m2 and the Porta store will be twice as large (19,030 m2). Thus, the Porta store will be one of the largest units of its kind in Slovakia. The company plans to start the construction works in the first half of 2017. The investment in the ASKO store will cost about €7.8m and the investment in the Porta store will cost about €16.8m.
